The Value of Earning a PMP Certification

The size of the company, the project and the team managed can vary, therefore making the opportunity to move up in the businesses world more achievable. The PMP Certification allows project managers to excel in their field with not only the education they receive from the program, but also potentially in their salary. The PMP Certification is a great way to showcase a project manager’s efforts because a certain degree is required as well as a set amount of field work experience.
More businesses are realizing not only the desire they have to employ project managers, but they now see the need for the position in their company. IT Worker Shortage Reaching Critical Point
An interesting trend has developed in the job market over the last few years: There is a shortage of certified IT professionals. Even as the rest of the job market continues to struggle with rebounding from the Great Recession, the IT field has exploded. Computers and telecommunications are increasingly present in day-to-day life. Not only has the consumer market for technology seen rapid growth, but businesses especially have developed an increasing reliance on technology for their daily operations.
Thanks to this increasing reliance on technology, the world finds itself in the strange position of not having enough jobs to fill in one field while others experience zero or negative growth. At first it might seem strange that there is a shortage of workers while millions are out of work at the same time. The reasoning behind the shortage is actually fairly easy to understand, though. Many IT positions require special certification in order to properly perform the functions of the job. Whether it’s a CCNA or PMP certification, many specialized IT positions require documented credentials in order for an employee to be hired. Although there is no shortage of competent workers, there is a shortage of workers who meet these criteria. Ultimately, it looks as though the lack of qualified employees may hit a critical point soon.
What could the ramifications be if the worker shortage isn’t resolved soon? The most obvious consequence would be slowed growth in the field. Positions that can’t be filled would simply have to be vacated permanently, meaning that the functions of the company depending on that position would slow down or cease entirely. The impacts here would be felt throughout the economy as businesses scale back their IT departments. Businesses in this situation would find themselves being virtually guaranteed to lose efficiency and revenue.
What’s truly puzzling about the entire situation is trying to figure out why there are so few employees with the necessary certifications to get hired in the industry. The necessary certifications, such as A+ and Net+, can be obtained quickly. IT is also a field of interest for many workers. It seems as though the primary reason behind the shortage, at least from the labor force’s perspective, is a simple lack of awareness. The majority of the population is simply unaware of the tremendous growth that the IT world has undergone.
Of course, the workers who recognize the reasons behind this shortage are the ones who are in prime position to take advantage of it. Because of the speed with which some IT certifications, such as CCNA and PMP, can be obtained, IT is a potential field for a range of different candidates. Mid-career professionals looking to make a change can obtain a certification quickly and make a smooth transition into an IT career. Individuals who are out of work and who have an interest in IT are also in excellent position to earn the necessary certifications and enter the field.
It still remains to be seen whether or not the high demand for IT works is ever satisfied. Working in IT is certainly an exciting and rewarding career for those who choose to launch one. However, the current worker shortage has been going on for years, and there’s no accurate way to gauge how long it can last. One thing that is certain, though, is that qualified employees should have no issues finding a rewarding position once they are certified.
